As a grandson of Tallahassee, Florida who was raised in Eastern North Carolina, Dr. Kevin grew up seeing the unwritten racial rules wrapped in Southern Hospitality. He used his words to bring equity his community and won two national journalism awards at 17 years-old.
The world-famous Durham Bulls hired a young energetic voice to entertain millions of fans. Dr. Kevin began seeing his reach expand after he was named the first weekend host of the North Carolina Education Lottery.
He always saw racism as a local issue but living in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina forced him to deal with systemic racism. He quit all his entertainment and sports role and began graduate school to study racism.
Dr. Kevin overcame the trials and never stopped fighting for triumphs in disadvantaged communities. In 2017, the National Quality Health Forum announced Dr. Kevin as one of the Nation’s 40 under 40 Health Leaders.
Dr. Kevin’s life journey taught him how to communicate with every person on the organizational chart.
